About the Author
David R. Matthews
David Matthews was trained in Wales as a Registered Nurse for people with Learning Disabilities in the 1960s. During his career he has worked as a specialist nurse in hospital and community settings with many different categories of client. He studied at Manchester Polytechnic to obtain a Community Nursing qualification, as well as a Clinical Teaching certificate at Liverpool. Revisiting Manchester University later he obtained a Certificate in Education and has worked as a nursing Tutor for more than 16 years in the North of England. In 1996 he obtained a Master of Arts degree (Community Care) at Keele University.
The author has produced various articles on nursing care, human genetics, and health care in professional journals, and is a regular speaker at national conferences.
David R. Matthews was formerly Senior Lecturer in the Department of Acute and Critical Care, Faculty of Health at the University of Central Lancashire, Preston. He is currently Senior Lecturer (Learning Disabilities Nursing), Department of Primary Health Care, St. Martin's College, Lancaster.
